FBI launches anti-terror raid in NY

Updated at: 0258 PST, Tuesday, September 15, 2009 NEW YORK: Federal Bureau of Investigation agents have raided homes in the New York City borough of Queens in connection with a counterterrorism investigation, US police said on Monday. Congressional sources confirmed lawmakers in Washington were to receive a full briefing on the raid late Monday afternoon. "The operation was in Queens. There were some raids in some residences there," Martin Speechlay, a spokesman for New York City police, told media. "It was a federal operation, we were assisting them." In Washington, a Senate aide told media that lawmakers were being briefed on the raid."Apparently the Homeland Security Committee is getting briefed today at 5:00 pm (2100 GMT)," the source, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said.

Mirwaiz elected head of Hurriyat moderate faction

Monday, September 14, 2009 SRINAGAR: Mirwaiz Umer Farooq was today unanimously re-elected chairman of the moderate faction of separatist amalgam Hurriyat Conference for a two-year term.The re-election of Mirwaiz, who heads Awami Action committee (AAC), as Chairman of the separatist amalgam for the third time in a row - was unanimous, a spokesman of the Hurriyat said after a meeting of the Executive council held here."Mirwaiz was choosen as chairman in accordance with the constitution of the Hurriyat. The election took place as per the democratic norms," the spokesman said.He said the election of the chairman was originally scheduled in June this year but delayed by three months due to "ups and downs" in the situation.

Some had lost their husbands at a young age or had been divorced. For them it was a very good platform where they got a chance to know each other and choose their partner.For majority of the divorcees, widows and widowers who attended Sunday’s event, opened doors to start a second life with a new life partner.

$200 million investment back to Pak stock markets

Monday, September 14, 2009 KARACHI: Seventy-eight per cent of the amount withdrawn by foreign investors from January to May 2009 has been returned to Pakistan stock markets.As per statistics released by National Clearing Company, foreign investors withdrew an amount of $261 million in January-May 2009 while they brought back the amount of $203 million in June-September 2009 which is 78 per cent of the total amount withdrawn.After an improvement by world rating agencies – Modis International and Standard and Pores, confidence of foreign investors in stock markets is increasing and investment in Pakistan’s stock markets is being considered as the most attractive in Asian countries.

Tuesday, September 15, 2009 NEW YORK: Juan Martin del Potro dethroned five-time defending champion Roger Federer 3-6, 7-6 (7/5), 4-6, 7-6 (7/4), 6-2 to capture the US Open on Monday, ending an era to win in his first Grand Slam final.Firing consistent winners, the 1.98m Argentine giant kept the pressure upon the player many hail as the greatest in tennis history, one he had never beaten in six prior attempts, and won a shocker after four hours and six minutes. "It's the best sensation in my life," Del Potro said. The stunner made Del Potro only the second South American to win the US Open men's crown, after countryman Guillermo Vilas in 1977, and denied Swiss world number one Federer a 16th career Slam crown and sixth US Open title in a row. "Life goes on. No problem," Federer said. "It has been an amazing run for me. Six would have been a dream too, but you can't have them all." Del Potro led Federer by two sets in the French Open semi-finals
