Widows, divorcees facilitated to remarry in Ahmedabad

Monday, September 14, 2009 AHMEDABAD: Widows and divorcees turned up in large numbers at a mass meeting here to choose their new life partners.600 men and 200 women, aged below 50 yrs, from different cities, attended this open forum on Sunday.“We have organized a special meeting for them so that they can come out of depression and look for a new life partner.” said Nattu Bhai Patel, coordinator of the meeting.Every woman present at the gathering had a different story to tell. Some had lost their husbands at a young age or had been divorced. For them it was a very good platform where they got a chance to know each other and choose their partner.For majority of the divorcees, widows and widowers who attended Sunday’s event, opened doors to start a second life with a new life partner.

Cuba's world-famous cigar festival closes in Havana

Sunday, February 28, 2010 HAVANA: Hundreds of wealthy merchants and cigar aficionados from all parts of the world gathered in Havana this week to bid high stakes for humidors full of premium cigars. Cuba's annual Habanos festival ended on Friday night with an auction of ornate humidors of cedar and mahogany stacked with hand-rolled stogies that raised 800,000 euros ($1.09 million dollars). Habanos S.A. executives this month said cigar sales fell 8 percent to $360 million in 2009, so they have created the Julieta, a smaller, milder version of the Romeo y Julieta cigar, aimed specifically at female smokers. Women now make up only 5 to 10 percent of customers for Habanos. But even with the creation of the Julieta, Garcia said Habanos has only modest hopes for 2010 sales, due largely to a weak economy in Spain, the biggest market for Cuban cigars. Tuesday, November 10, 2009 BERLIN: World leaders and partying Germans are descending on Berlin Nov. 9 to mark the 20th anniversary of the day the Berlin Wall was breachedIt is a day for celebrations and commemorations, for festivities and sober reflection. Berlin is marking 20 years since the fall of the Wall on Monday with a series of events, big and small. Leaders from around the world are descending on the German capital to help celebrate the momentous events of Nov. 9, 1989, a date that has come to symbolize the end of communism in Eastern Europe.
