Thursday, October 15, 2009 WELLINGTON: An earthquake of magnitude 6.0 struck off the South Pacific island nation of Samoa on Thursday, seismologists reported, two weeks after a violent quake caused a tsunami that devastated Tonga, Samoa and American Samoa. No immediate tsunami alert was issued by the Pacific Tsunami Warning Center in Hawaii following the quake, which struck at 6:00 am (1800 GMT Wednesday) at a narrow depth of 10 kilometres (six miles). The epicentre was 365 kilometres southwest the Samoan capital of Apia, the US Geological Survey said.

Kohat blast: toll mounts to 11

KOHAT: At least 11 people were killed when a suicide bomber rammed explosive-laden vehicle into the gate of a police station here, which turned the building of police station into rubble, Geo News reported Thursday.In suicide attack at Kohat Saddar Police station, at least four police vehicles were destroyed. Soon afterwards, emergency was declared in the hospitals and the security forces and police put security cordon around the area.The bodies of the deceased and injured in the attack and were taken to District Headquarters Hospital. According to Geo News, three policemen include the deceased. Relief work continues on the spot and wreckage is being removed. Eyewitness told a suicide bomber rammed the police station building with his whit explosive-laden wagon resulting in an ear-splitting blast. The blast severely damaged the police station building and rocked the area. According to hospital sources, over 12 persons have received injures. Talking to Geo News, the Federal Minister said the terrorists are mercenaries who are working for money.
