Release of Spider Man 4 delayed

Thursday, January 07, 2010 LONDON: The release of Spider-Man 4 has been delayed after reported issues with production of the superhero blockbuster. It now looks likely that the film will not be ready for its scheduled May 2011 release date. Filming was due to start on the movie this Spring but problems with the script are likely to push shooting back. Director Sam Raimi is reportedly arguing with studio Sony Pictures over which bad guy to include in the sequel. He has cast John Malkovich as The Vulture, though there are also rumours that Anne Hathaway could appear playing villain the Black Cat. Both Tobey Maguire and Kirsten Dunst will return for the fourth flick.

Kaneria becomes first Pakistani spinner to take 250 Test wickets

SYDNEY: Pakistan’s leg-spinner Danish Kaneria claimed five wickets in the second innings of the second Test against Australia here at the Sydney Cricket Ground on Wednesday. His fifth victim was Doug Bollinger by dismissing whom he became the first Pakistani spinner to reach the milestone of 250 wickets sin test cricket. He preformed the feat of taking five wickets in an innings for the 15th time while he has taken ten wickets in a match twice in his 57-Test career. The 30-year-old bowler, who belongs to Karachi, is Pakistan’s highest wicket-taker in Test cricket with 250 wickets in 57 tests, followed by former cricketer Abdul Qadir with 236 wickets in 67 Tests.

Beckham returns to AC Milan

Thursday, January 07, 2010 ROME: David Beckham enjoyed a winning return to the AC Milan side as they outclassed Genoa 5-2 at the San Siro. Watched by England coach Fabio Capello, Beckham impressed on the right side of a three-man attack in his first game since beginning a second loan spell. Injuries to Alexandre Pato and Clarence Seedorf meant 34-year-old Beckham played further forward than usual. After Ronaldinho had an early penalty saved, Genoa went ahead on 25 minutes but Milan were 2-1 up at half-time. Leonardo's side ran riot in the second half to keep the gap between them and leaders Inter Milan at eight points. It could hardly have gone better for Beckham, who is spending a second spell at Milan from LA Galaxy in a bid to prove to Capello that he is worth a place in England's squad for the World Cup.

Snowfall, cold shivers Europe

Thursday, January 07, 2010 LONDON: Europe shivered in bitterly cold temperatures again Thursday, as Britain braced for more snow that has already caused chaos amid its most brutal winter in decades. Millions of Britons endured another day of icy conditions and disrupted transport links that have already kept many away from work and knocked Britain's recession-hit economy. Temperatures overnight dropped to minus 18 degrees Celsius in Woodford outside Manchester, northwest England, and in Benson, southern England. Glasgow saw minus nine degrees Celsius, while London fell to minus three. No major British airports reported closures Thursday, with runways open following a day of disruption Wednesday. Britain's Met Office weather service said the cold spell was the worst since 1981 and warned of more to come. Thursday, January 07, 2010 LAHORE: Lashing out at the batsmen for defeat in Sydney Test, Chairman Selection Committee Iqbal Qasim said that such performance could not tolerated. In a strong message to the players, he said they will have to perform for retaining their places in the team. Qasim said the committee has decided to send Sarfaraz Ahmed to Australia to strengthen the wicketkeeping department. Speaking to media after meeting with PCB Chairman Ejaz Butt at Qaddafi Stadium here, he said that the decision to send Sarfaraz Ahmed was not made in consultation with the team management.
