Fans of King of Pop denounce ‘This Is It’ film

Monday, October 26, 2009 LOS ANGELES: Michael Jackson fans have condemned the new film about him, This Is It, claiming it covers up the grim reality of the King of Pop's final days. The people behind it claim to be friends as well as fans of the late King of Pop, and say their aim is to raise awareness about the true state of the star in the last weeks of his life. They accuse the firms behind the film, AEG and Sony, of not showing his failing health and the stress he was under ahead of a 50-date tour of London. This Is It, which uses more than 100 hours of unseen footage of Jackson rehearsing for his concert comeback, is the first since the singer died on June 25. The eagerly awaited documentary makes its premiere on Tuesday, screening simultaneously in 18 countries before going on a limited two-week release. Afghans torch Obama effigy over Quran abuse claims

Monday, October 26, 2009 KABUL: Furious Afghans torched an effigy of US President Barack Obama and hurled stones at police today during a mass protest over allegations that Western troops set fire to a copy of the Koran.A crowd of around 1,000 demonstrators, mainly university students, marched through the streets of the capital Kabul before massing in front of the national parliament building and hurling stones at riot police as well as an armoured vehicle which blocked them from going down one street.Police responded by firing into the air, dispersing the crowd for a brief period before they massed again.The demonstrators, almost all men, chanted: "Death to America, death to Jews and Christians!" as they burned a model of Obama and a US flag.Some wore black ribbons on their foreheads, calling for a jihad.

Monday, October 26, 2009 LOS ANGELES: Michael Jackson fans celebrated Halloween one week early on Saturday, as the worldwide "Thrill the World" dance attempt took place over the weekend.Organized by Michael Jackson fan clubs across the globe, people donned classic Jackson outfits and grooved to the famous song that's become deeply rooted in cultures around the world.The previous dance record was set on August 29th, where 13,597 people in Mexico City danced to Michael Jackson's "Thriller.""Thrill the World" has brought out celebrities this year, as Miley Cyrus appeared in Los Angeles, and Ola Ray – Michael Jackson's love interest in the original "Thriller" video – led a dance-a-thon in Tennessee.Roughly 37 countries have participated in the "Thrill the World" dance attempt, which takes place just days before Michael Jackson's "This Is It" film hits theatres.

More currencies to form part of Pakistan’s forex reserves

Monday, October 26, 2009 KARACHI: The State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) has initiated the process of bringing other currencies in the country’s pool of foreign exchange reserves with a view to protect its total reserves position.The decision has been made in view of the diminishing value of dollar which mainly forms Pakistan’s foreign exchange reserves. It is learnt that information regarding other currencies to be added in the country’s foreign exchange reserves and their proportions will not be disclosed.
