Federer wins Cincinnati Masters

Monday, August 24, 2009 CINCINNATI: World number one Roger Federer defeated fourth-seeded Novak Djokovic 6-1, 7-5 to win the Cincinnati Masters title Sunday and cement his status as favorite for the upcoming US Open. Federer set the tone in the second game of the match, when Djokovic saved six break points but still couldn't ward off the break of serve. When Djokovic finally held serve in the sixth game of the match he could only look at the sky and smile. He presented a tougher challenge in the second set but couldn't capitalize on a set point in the 10th game. Federer earned the key break for a 6-5 lead before serving out the match with a love game. Federer won his third Cincinnati title after victories here in 2005 and 2007. He also captured his 16th Masters crown - second only to Andre Agassi's career total of 17 in the elite series. Military launched operation against MQM

Monday, August 24, 2009 LAHORE: Secretary Information Pakistan Muslim League-N Ahsan Iqbal Monday maintained that the army launched military operation against Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) in 1992 without taking the government into confidence.Reacting to the statement of MQM Chief Altaf Hussain, Ahsan Iqbal said the then prime minister Nawaz Sharif had no role to play in initiating the military operation against MQM.“MQM is creating all this hue and cry to avoid investigation into May 12 incidents in Karachi,” he said.Ahsan Iqbal said it was General Asif Nawaz who gave the go ahead to the military operation against MQM and that no political consultation was undertaken in this regard.MQM should direct its queries to Pakistan People’s Party’s Naseeullah Babar who was a minister at that time and now an ally of MQM itself.

Monday, August 24, 2009::COLOMBO: The arrested LTTE chief, Selvarasa Pathmanathan alias KP had told Sri Lankan interrogators that his organisation had tried to get nuclear weapons and nuclear know how from Western countries. “LTTE had been the first terrorist outfit that had tried to obtain nuclear power. Had they been successful in obtaining nuclear power, it would have flowed into the hands of other terror organisations too,” a local newspaper quoted military analysts. Interrogation had revealed that KP had been used by the intelligence services of various countries for assorted purposes. Stefania Fernandez wins Miss Universe 2009 title
