The death of a former Miss Argentina after a routine buttock implants operation has reignited a long-running debate on the prevalence of cosmetic surgery in the South American country. Solange Magnano (above), who was crowned Miss Argentina in 1994, was rushed to hospital last week shortly after the gluteoplasty, which she hoped would give her firmer buttocks. She died on Sunday of a pulmonary embolism after three days in intensive care. Robert Piazza, a fashion designer and friend of Magnano, said the 38-year-old model, who leaves behind a husband and twin daughters, had been obsessing over her appearance as her modelling career drew to an end. "Solange was a girl who had everything," he said. "She lived the life of a goddess, she was the envy of everybody. Now she is dead because she wanted a slightly firmer behind. Monday, August 03, 2009 LA PAZ: A fashion show is organized in the city of El Alto near the capital La Paz to display Bolivian pollera styles.Bolivia's traditional layered skirts, bowler hats, embroidered shawl, lacy petticoat, shirt and matching shoes were presented as hip items in this fashion show.Pollera, a big skirt made of wool or cotton is very colorful. The large gathered skirt is generally white with two or three ruffles which have a floral design or embroidery.Bolivian president, Evo Morales encouraged traditional clothes like folksy sweaters, jackets with traditional textiles and the occasional Andean poncho and hat.Morales' message encouraged secretaries, college students and bureaucrats to wear luxury adaptation of the traditional outfit.Veronica Diaz, a designer who is showcasing her creation in the show has focused on gold and metallic colours. Bigger shawls with a longer fringe, classic look for the tops, with high necks, and a lower crown hat are in vogue.
