Mubarak urges Netanyahu to stop settlements

Monday, September 14, 2009 CAIRO: Egypt's President Hosni Mubarak urged Israel to halt "all settlement activity" and warned of the dangers it posed in Jerusalem, in talks with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu in Cairo on Sunday. Mubarak "called on Israel to stop all settlement activity, including 'natural growth' settlements," presidential spokesman Suleiman Awad said amid renewed US-driven efforts to kick-start the stalled Middle East peace process. The president "also urged (Israel) to stop attempts to judaise Jerusalem, warning of the dangerous consequences to peace efforts and highlighting the sensitivity of the Jerusalem issue to the Arab and Islamic worlds," Awad said. Netanyahu met Mubarak over "iftar," the meal ending the dawn-to-dusk fast during the Muslim holy month of Ramadan that was also attended by Egypt's intelligence supremo Omar Suleiman, before returning to Jerusalem. Monday, September 14, 2009 BAGHDAD: Muntazer al-Zaidi, the Iraqi reporter who shot to fame when he threw his shoes at then US president George W. Bush, is set to be released from jail on Monday, his lawyer said on Saturday. "I do not think there are any obstacles to his being freed, and I have great hope that he will be released on Monday," Dia al-Saadi said. The "defence team has presented a petition for (Zaidi's) release to the Iraqi central criminal court, which has handed an order for his release to the prison administration. All the legal conditions have been fulfilled." Barrichello, Button in Brawn 1-2 at Monza

Monday, September 14, 2009 MONZA: A beaming Rubens Barrichello made clear Sunday that he will push his Brawn GP team-mate and world championship leader Jenson Button all the way to the wire in this year's title race after winning the Italian Grand Prix. The 37-year-old Brazilian, who produced a beautifully measured drive from fifth on the grid to grab his second win of the season, said he was looking forward to a close tussle with his team-mate in the closing four races. "This win feels great," said Barrichello. "Whatever happens now, I feel like this is a winning year. Don't forget it was not so long ago that we thought we had no jobs, but now we have a fantastic car, a great engine and a fantastic team. "I have to say I am feeling very good.
