Protestors torch trains in India

NEW DELHI: Angry over Railways’ decision to withdraw the stoppage of a few trains in Bihar’s Khusrpur station, protestors on Monday torched three trains in Khusrpur and Fathua and ransacked the Khusrpur station uprooting rail lines under Danapur division. In the first incident protestors targeted the Shramjeevi Express in Khusrpur and torched two bogies of the train. Four bogies of the Danapur-Rajgir were also torched. Deputy Superintendent of Government Railway Police (Patna East) Rajendra Singh said hundreds of people from nearby villages torched the train and stormed the Khusrupur railway station this morning, ransacked the station and burnt it down. In a similar incident, angry commuters in Fathua, near Patna railway station, came on the tracks in the morning and forced the Danapur-Jainagar Intercity Express to a stop, they then asked all passengers to disembark before setting some coaches on fire. NEW DELHI: Pranab Mukherjee and LK Advani on Monday led the newly-elected members of the 15th Lok Sabha in taking oath of affirmation with senior most member of the House Manikrao Gavit presiding over the session as Protem Speaker.Mukherjee, the Leader of the House and Advani, the leader of Opposition were the first to take oath and sign the 'Roll of Members' after Lok Sabha Secretary General PDT Achary called their names.Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, a member of Rajya Sabha, was present in the House.Mukherjee and Advani were followed by Congress President Sonia Gandhi who took oath in Hindi and BJP leader Sumitra Mahajan who took oath in Sanskrit.After the Secretary General tabled the list of members elected to the House, Gavit said President Pratibha Patil had nominated senior MPs Basudeb Acharia (CPM), Arjun Charan Sethi (BJD), Biren Singh Engti (Congress) and Sumitra Mahajan (BJP) to preside over the administration of oath to the members.Gavit also informed the House that

Two Spanish aircraft joins search for Air France jet MADRID: Two Spanish aircraft Monday joined the search for an Air France passenger jet that is believed to have crashed in the Atlantic Ocean, the government said. An interior ministry spokesman said a reconnaissance plane from Spain's paramilitary Civil Guard police force left the Senegalese capital of Dakar where it was taking part in a European operation against illegal immigration. Defence ministry sources also said that an air force Fokker search and rescue aircraft was headed for the Cape Verde islands to take part in the operation. A French military reconnaissance plane also flew out of Senegal to take part in the search for the Airbus A330-200 aircraft, which went missing on a flight from Rio de Janeiro to Paris with 228 people on board.
