Pakistan humiliated by series whitewash in Australia

January 18, 2010 HOBART: Mohammad Yousuf’s team lost the third Test with a big margin of 231 runs as Australia completed a clean sweep of the three-Test series, for four times in a row against Pakistan. This was also Pakistan’s 12th successive defeat in a Test against the Aussies since 1999 and 27th overall in 55 Tests so far played between the two countries. Pakistan beat Australia for only eleven times while 17 matches ended in a draw. Australia equalled the record for the most consecutive Test wins by any side over any other team, matching the 12-game streak currently held by Sri Lanka over Bangladesh. Australia’s victory at Hobart’s Bellerive Oval came after lunch of the fifth and final day when they broke through some stubborn batting to bowl the tourists out for 206. Pakistan needed huge 335 runs with six wickets in hand when they resumed the second innings at 103-4 with Khurram Manzoor on 23 and Shoaib Malik 18. Pakistan lost two wickets for just 20 runs added to th

FBI admits photofit of Laden had Spanish features

Sunday, January 17, 2010 MADRID: A Spanish lawmaker was horrified to learn that the FBI used an online photograph of him to create an image showing what Osama bin Laden might look like today. The image using Gaspar Llamazares' photo appeared on a wanted poster updating the U.S. government's 1998 photo of the al-Qaida leader. FBI spokesman Ken Hoffman acknowledged to the Spanish newspaper that the agency used a picture of Llamazares taken from Google Images. In a statement Saturday, the agency would say only that it was aware of similarities between their age-progressed image "and that of an existing photograph of a Spanish public official." "The forensic artist was unable to find suitable features among the reference photographs and obtained those features, in part, from a photograph he found on the Internet," the FBI said in a statement to media. The wanted poster appeared on the State Department Web site rewardsforjustice.net, listing a reward o

Badie new leader of Egypt's Muslim Brotherhood

Sunday, January 17, 2010 CAIRO: Egypt's main opposition group, the Muslim Brotherhood, named conservative Mohammed Badie as its new leader on Saturday, in a move analysts said signals a switch to a less active role in politics. Badie, a veterinary professor at a southern university, was "chosen by consensus by members of the consultative council," his predecessor Mohammed Akef told a press conference in Cairo. The Brotherhood, is officially banned but controls a fifth of seats in the Egyptian parliament after it ran independent candidates in the last general election in 2005. Badie told reporters that the Brotherhood rejected violence and aimed to achieve gradual reforms. "We believe in incremental reform, and that takes places in a peaceful and constitutional way. We reject violence and denounce it in all its forms," the new leader said. The group has affiliates in other Muslim states, some with official status. Egypt's Brotherhood leader is in

Over 100,000 dead in Haiti catastrophe: PM

Sunday, January 17, 2010 PORT-AU-PRINCE: Four days after a magnitude 7.0 earthquake devastated Haiti, survivors are getting desperate for food and water. International relief efforts are slowed by blocked roads, limited equipment and a congested airport and scuffles are being reported over supplies. Meanwhile, rescuers continue to shovel through wreckage in search of survivors. Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton is in Haiti surveying the situation and meeting with the government and international officials. Haitian President Rene Preval has been urging donors to avoid squabbles. The U.S. military has taken over operations at the nation's main airport and relief flights have been stacked up. Over 100,000 have died in Haiti’s quake debacle. That's Haiti's prime minister's guess at where the death toll from Tuesday's massive earthquake will end up. He says the government alone has recovered 20,000 bodies, while independent agencies and relatives have colle
