ISLAMABAD: Hae Sung Kim of South Korea bagged the doubles title in company with compatriot Jung Yoon Shin and also reached singles final of the 2nd Leg of ITF Pakistan Women Futures Tennis Tournament at PTF Tennis Complex on Thursday. Hae Sung Kim and Jung Yoon Shin beat India pair Poojashree Venkatesha and Parul Goswami 6-4, 7-6(1) in the doubles final. In the two singles semi-finals, Hae Sung Kim knocked out Indian girl Poojashree Venkatasha 6-1, 6-2 while in an all-Indian affair Kumari Sweta Solanki disposed of top seed Parul Goswami 6-2, 6-2.In the doubles final, Korean pair of Kim and Shin broke first game of Goswami to take a 2-0 lead and eventually win the first set at 6-4 by hitting number of winners down the lines.Indians were making lots of unforced errors at the net. In the second set Kim and Shin again built up the winning lead 5-2 by breaking 1st and 3rd game of Goswami and Venkatesha.Goswami and Venkatesha fought back to level the score 5 all by playing consistant game from the baseline by breaking 8th and 10 game of Kim and Shin. The set was decided at tie-break which was won by Kim and Shin at 7-2 with excellent display of volleys.This is their second title as the won the first leg played last week. The match lasted 1 hour 45 minutes.Sweta Solanki and Hae Sung Kim will vie for the top honor in the ladies singles final on Friday.Solanki won the first set against Parul Goswami at 6-2 by breaking 6th and 8th games of her rival with deep shots down the lines.Goswami made a lot of unforced errors and most of her returns when out. In the second set Solanki kept the same pressure and won the second set in the same fashion at 6-2 by breaking 4th and 6th games of Gosawami.In the second semifinal 3rd seed Kim defeated 2nd seed and winner of first leg Venkatesha in straight sets.Kim won the first set at 6-1 by breaking 4th and 6th games of Venkatesha by playing forceful down the line shots. She was in full command in the second set to build up the winning lead 4-0 by breaking 1st and 3rd games of Venkatesha.Kim won the second set at 6-2 by holding her won serve with the help of two aces.
BEIRUT: Thousands of people converged Saturday on central Beirut to mark the fourth anniversary of the assassination of Lebanese former premier Rafiq Hariri.Waving Lebanese flags and carrying pictures of the slain leader, men, women and children gathered under sunny skies in Martyr's Square where members of the parliamentary majority were to address the crowd. The rally comes as final preparations are underway in The Hague for the launch of the international tribunal set up to bring Hariri's killers to justice. It also comes as the country prepares for legislative elections in June that will pit Western-backed political parties against a Hezbollah-led alliance backed by Syria and Iran.Hariri died in a massive car bombing on February 14, 2005 that also killed 22 others. The assassination was widely blamed on then Lebanese power-broker Syria, which has denied any involvement.
