Monday, February 01, 2010 VALENCIA: The Sauber team unveiled their new car for the 2010 Formula One season, the C29, here on Sunday. It will be driven by Spanish veteran Pedro de la Rosa and Japanese newcomer Kamui Kobayashi. The team is still registered under the name BMW Sauber F1, but German car-making giant BMW pulled out of the sport last season for strategic reasons and has not met any of the construction costs surrounding the C29. A spokesperson confirmed that the new car will be powered by a Ferrari engine, although the Italian manufacturers' name will not be associated with the team. Sauber, who finished sixth in the 2009 constructors championship, aim to maintain the same level this season despite the departures of last season's drivers. Robert Kubica of Poland has joined Renault, while German Nick Heidfeld is currently without a team. German newspaper says on Wednesday that the seven-time champion, who retired in 2006, signed the deal at the team's offices in Brackley, England, on Tuesday.Schumacher, a former Ferrari driver, has been heavily linked with a move to the former Brawn GP team, which won last year's drivers' and constructors' titles.The 40-year-old German driver attempted a brief return in August to replace injured Ferrari driver Felipe Massa but a serious neck injury kept him from driving.

Last year's beaten finalist Davydenko won 6-3, 6-4 in an hour and 24 minutes to claim the season-ending title, disputed among the world's top eight players. The win meant Davydenko jumped up the rankings to finish the season as the world number six, while Del Potro remains at number five. The Russian scooped 1,510,000 dollars in prize money, while the Argentinian collected 740,000 dollars. Davydenko became the first Russian to win the season-ending tournament. The twelve-part opening ceremony included singing by Taiwanese pop star A-mei, an appearance by actor Jet-Li and choreographed artistic performances themed on Taiwan's landscape, ecology, and even its food.One of the acts, meant to highlight Taipei as a culinary capitol, had performers dressed up as noodles, vegetables and stewed eggs.
