Undeclared curfew in Srinagar, Shopian

Monday, June 08, 2009 SRINAGAR: In occupied Kashmir, all major cities and towns have been sealed and nobody is being allowed to venture out to march towards Shopian where two young innocent women were raped and murdered by Indian troops on May 30. The authorities have imposed undeclared curfew in downtown areas of Srinagar and in Shopian town to prevent people from holding anti-India demonstrations. People of the downtown areas told media men that they are not being allowed to move out of their houses by Indian troops and police personnel.Indian troops holding heavy automatic weapons and sticks have been witnessed marching the deserted streets. All exit and entrance points at the district headquarters have been sealed. On the other hand, the APHC Chairman, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, Mohammad Yasin Malik, Mian Abdul Qayoom, Agha Syed Hassan Al-Moosvi and other Hurriyet leaders have been placed under house arrest. Israeli troops killed 4 Palestinian fighters

Monday, June 08, 2009 GAZA CITY: Israeli troops killed four Palestinian gunmen early Monday in a flare-up of violence along the tense frontier between Israel and Hamas-controlled Gaza, a Palestinian official said. A group of around 10 gunmen were trying to cross the border fence into Israel when they were spotted by troops, according to Palestinian security officials. Dr. Moaiya Hassanain of the GazaHealth Ministry said four fighters were killed in the clash. The Israeli military said soldiers patrolling the fence early Monday came under fire and shot back. There were no reports of Israeli casualties.

Sri Lanka win as Australia out of World T20

NOTTINGHAM: Sri Lanka won their first match by six wickets in their group C while world champions Australia were knocked out of the World Twenty20 2009 here at Trent Bridge on Monday.Chasing a modest total of 160 runs, Sri Lanka achieved the winning target in 19 overs for the loss of four wickets.Captain Kumar Sangakkara remained unbeaten on 56, made from 42 balls with two sixes and four boundaries while Tillakeratne Dilshan scored 53 off 32 balls with 10 fours.
