Friday, July 10, 2009 , SAN FRANCISCO: General David Petraeus, commander of U.S. Central Command in charge of the wars in the Middle East, and architect of the troop "surge" was target of a protest here for his part in torture and killing civilians, Geo News reported Friday. A major demonstration was held when Petraeus spoke here at the Marines Memorial Theater, 609 Sutter St., 2nd floor. "Afghanistan is not the 'good war,'" said a spokesperson for World Can't Wait, an organizer of the demonstration. "General Petraeus should answer for his criminal role in the 'war on terror' and the huge escalation in Afghanistan." Peace activists said that under Petraeus' command, pilotless drones have resulted in "mass murder" of civilians in Afghanistan and Pakistan. "No amount of slick PR packaging can render Petraeus anything better than a war criminal. There is a huge blanket of lies and ignorance surrounding the killing in Afg...

Prayer rug that tells direction of Kabaa

Friday, July 10, 2009 , ISTANBUL: Sajjadah 1426 (Sajjadah means "prayer rug" in persian/turkish and 1426 stands for 2005 in Islamic calendar) is a high tech carpet for Muslims who have to turn to the Mecca and pray five times a day. The rug indicates the right direction via the data coming from a compass module embedded inside the prayer mat. The closer to the direction of the Makkah the rug is turned, the brighter the Electro Luminescent panel. A prayer rug is a small and portable carpet that Muslims put on the floor when they perform their prayers. Its main function is to provide a clean and isolated platform for the prayer. With the specific patterns on its surface, it also aims to bring the atmosphere of a mosque to wherever they take it. Muslims pray five times a day. The only product they need to perform their prayers is a prayer rug. And there is one thing they need to be careful about: the holy city of Makkah, the direction towards which they should perform their pr...

New babies ad creates ripples on Internet

Friday, July 10, 2009 , LONDON: A new television advertisement featuring infants, which stirs you to smile, is among the most watched clips over the webscape, Geo News reported Friday. If Evian's latest advertisement is anything to go by, mothers should forget about milk and start feeding their babies water. The commercial shows a group of acrobatic babies getting the power to move like the late King of Pop Michael Jackson - apparently thanks to the mineral water's health-giving properties. In the film, a troupe of 96 roller-skating babies grooves to a remix of the Sugarhill Gang's Rapper's Delight, all thanks to some nifty special effects. One child presses play on a giant ghetto blaster and then starts performing a series of flips and somersaults. At least 3.5 million have watched this ad over Internet at youtube during one week.
