Khan Engaged Himself Another Controversy

Apparently Shah Rukh Khan has landed himself in a controversy yet again. In an interview to a popular magazine, SRK has said to have shown Prophet Mohammad(Pbuh) in bad light, reports bigoye.com. According to the report, the superstar has compared him to the likes of Hitler and others. The interview has reportedly offended the religious sentiments of certain people from the community and they are demanding an explanation from the star. At present SRK is out of India shooting for KJo's film My Name is Khan. To jog your memory a little further, a few months ago, SRK got entangled in a controversy surrounding the name of his film. The name of his film Billu Barber was changed at the last minute to Billu.Shah Rukh is known to make controversial statements. Georgia plans to send 500 troops to Afghanistan

Tuesday, June 23, 2009 WASHINGTON: Georgia plans to send about 500 soldiers to Afghanistan next year to bolster the NATO-led security force there, a US defense official said on Monday. Georgia, which wants to join the NATO alliance over objections from Russia, will deploy "the equivalent of a battalion" in Afghanistan in 2010, a US defense official, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said. Close to 90,000 foreign forces, most of them Americans, are stationed in Afghanistan, fighting an increasingly bloody insurgency being waged by the Taliban and its allies. Insurgent attacks have reached record highs in recent weeks in Afghanistan, raising concerns about security ahead of the war-torn country's second-ever presidential elections due in two months. About 2,000 Georgian troops were deployed in Iraq from August 2003 but were rushed back to Georgia in August last year amid a battle with Russian forces over South Ossetia. Bercow faces first day as UK Speaker

Tuesday, June 23, 2009 LONDON: Tory MP John Bercow will get down to work chairing Commons proceedings after being elected Speaker of the House.Mr Bercow got 322 votes to fellow Tory Sir George Young's 271 in the third and final round of secret voting. Gordon Brown and opposition leaders welcomed the appointment of Mr Bercow. Mr Bercow will be in the chair for business in the Commons on Tuesday.

Obama signs anti-smoking bill

Tuesday, June 23, 2009 WASHINGTON: US President Obama signed into law the toughest new measures ever on the tobacco industry designed to stop young people from smoking.The Family Smoking Prevention Act the president approved gives the US Food and Drug Administration sweeping authority to regulate ingredients in tobacco products, like tar and nicotine, as well as limit advertisements aimed at young people and have final say over new tobacco products. The law, which Congress passed overwhelmingly, also restricts makers of tobacco products from using candy or fruit flavorings in their products and bans them from advertising at sporting or entertainment events. Before signing the bill, Obama said the harmful effects of tobacco products have been known for decades, and "more than 400,000 Americans now die of tobacco-related illnesses each year.

Six dead, 76 wounded in Washington Metro crash: mayor

Tuesday, June 23, 2009 WASHINGTON: Six people were killed and at least 76 injured Monday in a rush-hour collision between two Metrorail subway trains in the US capital, an official in Mayor Adrian Fenty's office said. "The mayor confirmed that there are six confirmed deaths, the largest fatality in Metro's four-decade history," communications officer Jack Pfeiffer told media. The crash occurred minutes after 5:00 pm (2100 GMT) in northeast Washington during the city's evening rush hour, when a subway train traveling on an outdoor track inexplicably plowed into another train that was stopped on the same track awaiting orders to proceed, officials from the Washington Metroplitan Area Transit Authority (WMATA) said. The female operator of the rear train was among those killed.
