Expectations are high with 'De Dana Dan'

Wednesday, November 25, 2009 MUMBAI: After delivering comedies like 'Hera Pheri' and 'Phir Hera Pheri', Akshay Kumar, Suniel Shetty and Paresh Rawal have teamed up once again in 'De Dana Dan', another laugh riot that releases Friday. Expectations are high as Priyadarshan's latest venture is being compared to the 'Hera Pheri' films. Produced by Ganesh and Girish Jain and Sunil A. Lulla, it also stars Katrina Kaif, Neha Dhupia and Sameera Reddy. ' 'De Dana Dan' is not 'Hera Pheri'. Sure the star cast is the same and so is the director, but there's no effort to make a sequel to 'Hera Pheri' or be like 'Hera Pheri'. But comparisons with 'Hera Pheri' are inevitable. 'De Dana Dan' is far more entertaining than any Akshay-Priyadarshan movies made in the past,' one of the producers was quoted as saying. Shot mostly in Singapore, 'De Dana Dan' is about Nitin Bankar (Akshay) who multi-tasks for a woman industrialist (Archana Puran Singh) - he is her butler, driver, watchman and gardener. But Nitin desperately wants to become rich and to fulfil his dreams, he marries Anjali Kakkad (Katrina) who supports him financially. Meanwhile, Nitin's best friend Ram Mishra (Suneil) also comes to Singapore with big dreams but ends up being a courier delivery man. He falls in love with Manpreet Oberoi (Sameera) but her high society parents don't approve of their marriage. They say Ram will have to rise up to their level to marry her. In the midst of all this, Harbans Chadda (Paresh Rawal), a shrewd businessman who is looking for ways to multiply his income and avoid his debtors, decides to marry his son off to a rich girl. He comes to know about Manpreet and introduces himself as a well-established businessman to her parents. Harbans manages to impress them and they agree to the alliance between Manpreet and Harbans' son (Chunky Pandey). With several factors working against them, Nitin and Ram reach a dead end in their relationships. They come up with a plan to kidnap a rich person and demand a ransom but the abduction plan spirals out of control and they have to hide in a hotel. Manpreet's wedding reception is being held at the same hotel. And soon they are joined by a motley of characters including a Chinese don, a hired assassin, a police inspector, a club dancer and a dead body. Noteworthy is that 'De Dana Dan' is Akshay and Katrina's sixth outing together after movies like 'Hum Ko Deewana Kar Gaye', 'Namastey London', 'Welcome', 'Singh Is Kinng' and 'Blue'. The movie has also been in the news for a lovemaking scene between the two. Priyadarshan and crew hope to bring back the comic punch on the big screen with 'De Dana Dan'.

US drones to target Taliban in Afghan war

Friday, July 31, 2009 WASHINGTON: The US military plans to use more drone aircraft to target Taliban militants in Afghanistan while focusing less on hunting down Al-Qaeda figures, report said on Thursday.Although defeating the Al-Qaeda terror network remains an overriding goal for Washington, officials now believe the best way to pursue that objective is to ensure stability in Afghanistan and neighboring Pakistan instead of Al-Qaeda manhunts, the paper said, citing US government and Defense Department officials. It was more important to prevent a slide towards violence and anarchy that could be exploited by Al-Qaeda, which used Afghanistan to stage its attacks on the United States on September 11, 2001, the officials said."We might still be too focused on Bin Laden," an official said. "We should probably reassess our priorities."The shift in priorities for the drone fleet comes despite President Barack Obama's declaration that defeating and dismantling Al-Qaeda ...
