Thursday, July 02, 2009 AMMAN: Pakistan won the seniors event of the Asian Bridge Championship being held here in Jordan while they faced defeat in the final of the women’s event.Pakistan played against India in the final of the men’s event and completely outclassed their arch rivals by 81-63.However in the women’s event, Pakistan were defeated by hosts Jordan 44-80.Pakistan beat Syria and Bangladesh in open event whereas India beat Pakistan.After 18 rounds were completed, Pakistan came second with 307 points and are complete contender for reaching the final.
Friday, August 14, 2009 MUMBAI: A 26-year-old woman died Thursday of H1N1 swine flu in the southern city of Bangalore, raising India's death toll from the virus to 20, authorities said.The death was the first reported in India's information technology capital, the Press Trust of India reported.Meanwhile in Pune, the worst-affected in India, two more victims of the virus died Thursday, raising the death toll in that western city near Mumbai to 12, the report said.
