Saturday, June 20, 2009 TEHRAN: The Iranian group which planned to organise a rally on Saturday said it will not go ahead with the demonstration as it did not have the required permission, state television said. The Combatant Clerics Assembly, who planned the rally, said no "rally will be held" on Saturday, a statement issued by the group and put on the website of state television said. "Permission was asked to hold a rally but since it has not been issued, there will be no rally held," the statement said.The announcement, hours before the rally was due to go ahead at 4 p.m. (1130 GMT), contradicted a statement from an aide to one of the defeated election candidates who earlier said the rally would go ahead.
Friday, August 14, 2009 MUMBAI: A 26-year-old woman died Thursday of H1N1 swine flu in the southern city of Bangalore, raising India's death toll from the virus to 20, authorities said.The death was the first reported in India's information technology capital, the Press Trust of India reported.Meanwhile in Pune, the worst-affected in India, two more victims of the virus died Thursday, raising the death toll in that western city near Mumbai to 12, the report said.
