President restores Justice Iftikhar as Chief Justice of Pakistan

ISLAMABAD: President Asif Ali Zardari has endorsed the restoration of Justice Iftikhar Mohammad Chaudhry as Chief Justice of Pakistan, the spokesman of Aiwan-e-Sadr said on Tuesday.

US have role in Pakistan’s internal politics: Huqqani
WASHINGTON: Pakistan Ambassador in US, Hussain Haqqani has said that US as an ally might have concerns over Pakistan’s emanating internal situation, but it has no role in the internal politics of Pakistan.

In interview, he said that Pakistan’s internal politics were exclusively a matter of the people of Pakistan. He said that the US support and assistance for the people of Pakistan should continue and it should not be affected by the upcoming changes in internal politics.

Hussain Haqqani said that the recent steps for political reconciliation in Pakistan was a Pakistani solution of Pakistani problem, in the wake of the politicians’ interactions and the US role in this should not be blown up out of proportion.

He said that Pakistan welcomes US support for Pakistan democratic process, which means support for the democratic institutions and elected leaders

42 killed in wave of Iraq bombings

BAGHDAD: At least 42 people were killed and nearly 100 wounded in a spate of bomb attacks near the restive northern Iraqi city of Mosul and in the capital Baghdad on Monday, police said. In the deadliest single attack, two booby-trapped lorries exploded before dawn in the village of Khaznah, east of Mosul, leaving 25 people dead and 70 others wounded. Thirty-five houses were destroyed in the village, which is home to members of the tiny Shabak community, a sect of Kurdish origin. In Baghdad, two car bombs went off as day labourers were gathering in the early morning hours looking for jobs.The first bomb exploded at Hay al-Amel, in the west of the capital, killing nine people and injuring 46. The second bomb attack in Shurta Arbaa in the north of the city killed seven people and wounded 35 others.
